About Ashenda

Ashenda (also referred to as Ayni Wari in Axum and Maria in Adigrat), is a unique cultural Tigrayan holiday coinciding with the celebration of the upcoming new year (Qudus Yohannes) in September. According to religious oral history, the three-day long tradition dates back to the age in which the population primarily followed the teachings of the old testament. The festivities are mostly celebrated by girls and young unmarried women. The festival occurs every year around August 16th to 26th. This tradition, widely celebrated around the world today, originated in the modern-day Tigrinya-speaking regions of Ethiopia and Eritrea. The holiday showcases to the world the depth of our historical traditions, our beautiful culture, and the powerful role that women play in Tigrayan life.

Purpose of Fundraiser

TPN is dedicated to creating an environment that educates and empowers Tigrayans in the diaspora and back home. Your donation will support programming that aligns with our four (4) programmatic pillars: 1) Personal and Professional Development; 2) Social Action and Civic Engagement; 3) Deki Tigray Networking; and 4) Mentorship.

Established in 2019, TPN has created programs to support Tigrayan communities within two new chapters in Atlanta, Georgia and Denver, Colorado. In just one year, TPN has held several events from video conferences on COVID-19, Civic Engagement, and the History of Tigray -  to virtual classes learning Tigrinya and computer coding - to workshops on protecting your mental health, and kickboxing for your physical health.

It takes a village to develop the young women and men in our communities and equip them with the tools to lead. Donate and join the movement as the TPN continues to make a positive impact on the growth and development of Tigrayans across the globe. Thank you for your support of the Tegaru Professionals Network!
